Practicing the Presence of the Ineffable Divine

I was going to write something on Political Correctness and Multiculturalism at Petri Dish today but my mood is definitely in Origami Land so we’ll come here today.

Dog Poet Transmitting.......

Maybe it’s always been there. Well, of course it has but it was inaccessible much of the time, even though I knew it was there. I am talking about the ‘presence’ of the divine. A fellow for whom I was developing an incremental degree of affection took me to task for what amounted to a problem of syntax. It could have been gender specific too. Whatever it was, it was an insurmountable problem for the fellow and I regret what followed as a result.

I had apparently given the impression that I did not view the divine as a personality. This, of course, is not true. I talk to the divine and, I can assure you, when I do it is very definitely a being. I talk to the divine ineffable the same way I talk to you. I might say different things and the relationship may be different but it is a ‘living being’ and I have manifested all the degrees of positive and negative passion in respect of it on my way to the moment I am in.

However, if the divine is all in all, then the divine is in everything; sleeping in the rock, dreaming less deeply, as he goes up through the plant, the animal and the human being, until realized as himself in the consciousness of anyone in whom he awakens and even here, it is a matter of degrees. Not all realization is the same. Some are more fully realized than others and every master, no matter how wise or realized, has a master still and is a master only to the degree that he/she allows the one all pervading master to move freely within. We obtain mastery in only one way... submission. Call it surrender if that seems less obsequious. After all, there’s your pride to consider.

I try to stay away from religious terminology because I do not want to alienate anyone who might prefer a different icon or manifest garment in which one clothes the invisible ineffable to suit their upbringing or their tastes. The One is resident in all and therefore there is no conflict. I am partial to Krishna as the supreme personality but that’s just me. I am also drawn to Tara and other personifications of the mother, depending on my state of mind and also to the Amitabha Buddha and Lord Ganapati. It’s like having a family or a circle of friends. They’re all the same being but the seeming differences makes for a larger group. It’s like Christmas dinner. It’s far nicer to have a dozen people around the table rather than just two.

In one of my songs, “The Love”, there is the line, “One love falls and breaks into pieces everywhere and one love collects them all again.” This is what is going on. The divine manifested itself into many expressions for the purpose of seeking itself and gathers all the parts of itself back together in the process. Some pieces are gathered earlier and that is the preferable thing for any sane mind. Any sane mind would, perforce, be considered insane by the world and those in whom the world holds sway.

I said in a fairly recent posting that I had been engaged in various spiritual practices over the course of my life. Some of them lasted longer than others. Some I engaged in and then left by the side of the road and some came and went and came again. Over the last several years I have been through a series of relationships that were each intense for their time.

One of the jobs that Tara performs (and this posting is not about Tara), besides protection, is to route you to the Supreme Being. She takes you in hand and arranges for conditions that make you ready for the encounter. She presents you to your guru who is the particular mask worn by the divine ineffable for the purpose of conferring realization.

I have been at pains asking her again and again for this and it has brought me to a curious place for which I have a great gratitude. Over the course of this period I have become more and more aware of the concept of ‘presence’. Brother Lawrence wrote a powerful little book called, “The Practice of the Presence of God”. It’s well worth your time, as is “The Door to Everything” by Ruby Nelson.

During the last 16 months, I have experienced various periods of deep unease and discomfort. I wouldn’t know how to describe it but you are all familiar with similar things in your own lives. Recently, I had another one of these inexplicable misfortunes and it came at a time when I was trying very hard to reach the goal. These times have come no matter how devoted or well behaved I might have been seeking to be. It caused a sense of hopelessness now and again as if nothing I could do would make the slightest difference in what happened to me. That may be true. Luckily (if it is luck) for me, I am an irrepressible sort and just can’t stay down for very long. It’s just not in my nature. So, I always get back up and press forward with confidence and faith.

Over the last however long it’s been (grin) when I lay down in bed at night my mind turns immediately to the divine and I find myself saying things like, “I know you are there and I know you hear me. I know you have given me distractions the way a mother does with a child when it is pestering her. Sometimes these distractions have worked for a little while but they never last. I am incapable of being distracted for long and you know this.

“It could be that you are testing me to see my resolve and you might be busy but I don’t think it’s the latter. I have been asking you to give me your presence but I am realizing that you are always present and that I am not asking as precisely as I might. What I want is for you to awaken me to your presence. I want you to make it possible for me to be aware of your presence at all times and in all places. You are already here. Please make it possible for me to perceive that. I don’t want anything else. You know this. You know my heart and you know that nothing else will satisfy this need which I realize you placed in me to begin with.

“I understand that you could- and possibly will- create more powerful and attractive distractions but I don’t think even they will work now. I have looked at them and I see the downside before I see the upside and there is not much upside to any of it. Grant me the ability to feel your presence. You know it is my inheritance. You know I will be given this, sooner or later, so give it to me now”.

There’s more than that, of course. It goes on for hours. I find myself waking up as many as six or more times in the night and being immediately engaged in it; coming right out of whatever dream I am in... right back into it. There may be several hours before I fall asleep initially and I am pressing with a strong intensity in this way; the mind is pointed, the heart is inflamed and the body is contracting and digging into itself. The combination of all three is collectively much greater than the sum of the parts.

You have read in various scriptures some permutation of, “seek me with your whole heart, your whole mind, your whole being”. In the Bhagavad-Gita, Krishna says, “Success is speedy for the energetic”. Those are powerful words and they are true words. Many people scoff and mock but they have not tested the thing. They have not given it everything or even been capable of small disappointments, much less the greater challenges that take us to the point of letting go of everything, as we must or... we shall not arrive. We shall not arrive otherwise.

The reason I am even mentioning this is because of certain things that have been happening because of it ...and I won’t elaborate on them. For some reason, it is much more accessible and much more possible now than it has ever been and I cannot remember many times in my life when I found myself in states of being I could not have visited previously without psychedelic booster rockets.

It really is happening and it is there for any who might desire it more than they do whatever else is available; on a showroom floor, in a room of glitter, in a velvet box, a velvet outfit, wrapped in plastic or made out of it altogether. Many of us are experiencing grave trial and internal torment fueled by the negative emotions we have brought with us in our luggage. Toss your luggage in the sea and set your heart free. Press on within from this dream that holds you captive and see if you are not heard and answered in some fashion. Our difficulties here are of no real matter because all of this is temporary anyway. Some creations are not temporary and you are one of them.

End Transmission.......

Hey Papa,. I know, I know, I never comment here, maybe once, a year ago or so? however, this is something I wrote some time ago and nevr posted.. it is silly, probably, given the spiritually sophisticated nature of the commenters here. Anyhoo,

Having been encouraged through scripture classes as a child to read ‘from’ the Bible(KJV) not ‘into’ it – I never had the opportunity to obtain an understanding of the Bible during my formative years. As a result, when I was encouraged to take up the Cross (hereditary); I was shocked by the obvious contradictions. Particularly, the Trinity, I assume that there are a great many Christians like myself that became confused, frustrated and then of course bemused with the incongruous anomalies of the New and Old Testaments. I watched with astonishment as the ‘Christ Mass’ celebrated in Rome recently made constant references to The Holy Trinity. There is absolutely no reference to The Trinity in the Christian scriptures, truly. No faithful transliterations of Bible scripture make any reference to ‘The Trinity’. Perhaps you are aware of this; many practicing Christians are not - Which brings me to my question: Is it plausible to posit that the Trinity that is ‘spoke of’ regards to the Christ figure and the Beings he manifested are a convenient transmogrification of the Hindu Trinity; like the many Druidic masses and festivals that Augustine incorporated into his proto-religion; is the Trinity another convenient affectation?
For reference - The Hindu Trinity consists of the Tri-Gods - Lord Brahma, the creator, Lord Vishnu, the preserver and Lord Shiva the destroyer...could these entities be The Father, The Son(Sun?) and the Holy Ghost? ...
Thank you

Maybe you can elaborate just a little bit, because I think I know what you're talking about. It's something I encountered for the first time two days ago, an energy surge, really. It's a lot better lying down than when I'm sitting in the well-known meditating position, but when I am sitting up the best description would be a kind of wave that you can miss if your mind drifts away from it.

Interestingly, something very similar to this was mentioned in one of the old ALTA reports.

Visible said...

I'm sorry to say that elaboration might well lead to a greater confusion since if it could be put into words it would have been long ago. It can be indicated but not described. One of the reasons is that it is different for everyone. Different might not be the right word. Let's say that anyone's description of it would not be the same as anyone else.

Pstonie said...

I had a feeling that it may be a global thing, and another feeling that I'd probably see it first mentioned here. If it is indeed global, then in the words of our generation: "It's on."

In my case, I don't think of god as a personality and I think the word G/god has become a bit too tarnished for a proper description of what I believe in as well. Personally, I prefer the term life.

I had this idea the other day that god doesn't exist while we do, and that it (whatever it is) can only be perceived by us. Basically that this shattering into billions of human pieces of consciousness (which you also mentioned in this post) is the result of this divine entity asking "What am I?".

Anyway, it's looking like this divine is something different to everyone, but that we can all reach the right state of mind if we begin with the only step that really needed to be in the bible: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Visible said...

as to the last part, True...

I rarely use the word God for that reason.

I realize also that Mistook what you were talking about after you mistook (I think) what I was talking about (grin).

I was referring to the presence, not the energy that is moving through the atmosphere at this time. Now I understand what you were referring to. That I could put into words, s far as my experience goes but I don't have the time now... heh heh..

Be well.

Brilliant post Les.

I read the book you recommended ('The Impersonal Self' by John Benner) and am somewhere down a parallel road to yours though I've only recently set foot on this particular road, or rather, been wearing this particular pair of shoes while on the road.

I talk directly using similar words and making similar demands. I don't know how the response is taking place, maybe I am just starting to hear myself better......but something is happening and it is good.....and it will be better still.

May more inspiration and more truth manifest itself in you and through you.

Jesus was for all intents and purposes, "missing" for some 17 years.

Srila Prabhupada:
When an Indian person calls on Krishna, he often says, Krsta. Krsta is a Sanskrit word meaning attraction. So when we address God as Christ, Krsta, or Krishna we indicate the same all-attractive Supreme Personality of Godhead. When Jesus said, Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be Thy name, the name of God was Krsta or Krishna.

Hi les, have you read the book "Anastasia" by Vladimir Megre, it is the first book of a series of books called "The Ringing Cedars of Russia",all written by Vladimir Megre, about the wisdom and teaching of a very enlightened woman called Anastasia, who lives alone in the remote forests of the Siberian Taiga. Anastasia has been a bit of a sensation in Russia, but little is known of her in the west as the books have not long been translated into English. Anastasia claims to be the last remaining survivor of a long lost race of enlightened people, that once inhabited the whole planet. Anastasia has some simply amazing knowledge and abilities that appear miraculous to our level of conditioning, abilities she says we all have, but have been conditioned out of us by the system we live under. She says if man purified his thoughts and himself then these abilities will re-awaken in him/her. She explains the divine creator, and how the dark forces have taken over mankind, and that the forces of light are now fighting back, to re-awaken mankind, to destroy the dark forces. She explains that once we know how the dark forces work, and the tools and methods they use, then we as people can change ourselves to destroy them. Many beliefs and religions rely upon human writings of long dead "masters", (as well as so called channeled higher beings). It is so refreshing to have the words of a living enlightened person, who understands our world today, and can teach and inspire us how to create the next golden age for humanity. "Anastasia" is a must read for all those seeking a better way to live and be.

Les & All, just a thaught,
don't be fooled by any modern self proclamed prophets and gurus. As if the world is missing any. Any Muslim would tell you that Mohammad (peace be upon him) is the last prophet. Any Muslim folower of the holley Qoran and the prophets Ibraheem, Moossa, Issa and Mohammad (peace ne upon them) that pretend to be a prophit or to follow a new prophet is not a Muslim, even if he reads the Qoran and pretend to follow the prophets mentioned in the holley book.

Hi Les,

I’ve been reading your blogs for a long time and never posted any comments. I really admire your writings and also enjoy your readers’ comments. Wish you all the best.

Here is a very precise description of the Divine ONE and wanted to share it among your readers. This is recorded in the last and final testament, the Holy Qur’an:

Chapter 112: AL-IKHLAS (The Unity, Sincerity, Oneness of Allah)

1. Say (O’ Muhammad): He is Allah, the One and Only;
2. Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; on Whom all depend;
3. He begetteth not, nor is He begotten;
4. And there is none like unto Him.

Some of HIS attributes -
1. Ar-Rahmaan: The Compassionate, The Beneficient.
2. Ar-Raheem: The Merciful, The One who has plenty of mercy for the believers.
3. Al-Malik: The King, The Sovereign Lord, The One with the complete Dominion, the One Whose Dominion is clear from imperfection.
4. Al-Quddoos: The Holy, The One who is pure from any imperfection and clear from children and adversaries.
5. As-Salaam: The Source of Peace, The One who is free from every imperfection.
6. Al-Khaaliq: The Creator, The One who brings everything from non-existence to existence.
7. As-Samee: The All-Hearing, The Hearer, The One who Hears all things that are heard by His Eternal Hearing without an ear, instrument or organ.
8. Al-Baseer: The All-Seeing, The One who Sees all things that are seen by His Eternal Seeing without a pupil or any other instrument.
9. Al-Ghafoor: The All-Forgiving, The Forgiving, The One who forgives a lot.
10. Ash-Shakoor: The Grateful, The Appreciative, The One who gives a lot of reward for a little obedience.
11. Al-Muqeet: The Maintainer, The Guardian, The Feeder, The Sustainer, The One who has the Power.

One of Hadiths [are narrations originating from the words and deeds of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)] -

On the authority of Abdullah bin Abbas, who said: One day I was behind the prophet and he said to me -

"Young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice]: Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you. If you ask, ask of Allah; if you seek help, seek help of Allah. Know that if the Nation were to gather together to benefit you with anything, it would benefit you only with something that Allah had already prescribed for you, and that if they gather together to harm you with anything, they would harm you only with something Allah had already prescribed for you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried."

As you see, “everything is under HIS control” and you are right of saying it. Now, it depends on us how we perceive HIM and keep our faith on HIM.

Best wishes,

The presence of the Divine - for me the word Creator/Creation is good.
It is just there. It comes. I can be sitting working, or peeling vegetables, or lying in my bed. And it is just there. Suddenly I am connected very deeply right into the earth, and very high high into the heavens. And I shiver. And I know, this is Creator visiting me a while with a power that I cannot yet carry all the time. The power lasts but a while .. and it is enough. It comes in its time, and it goes in its time. But all the time I know it is there.

This is a time where we will be seeing many false prophets and although there are other gods, there is just the one Almighty God. To be misled into worshipping other gods is to lose the truth and therefore the soul. Look at how many are fooled today about this war. Pike said all those years ago that "they would release the terrorists" and that "it was not for either side to win, but for them to destroy each other so the 'newbies' could take over. "They" is not Islam, nor Christianity. Don't you know who "they" are???

Beautiful post Les,
Just last night for the first time, I went to bed with a Prayer, a question. What is it I am afraid of? What is that fear that keeps me from uniting with You, the almighty Presence, to be revealed in my dreams. What ensured was a night of profound (for me) dreaming, as I paid a lot more attention to them. Maybe my dreams are always trying to speak to me? But by going to bed with a strong intent to hear/see what they are saying, makes them more audible/visible?

My home is on the sea, so it was apt that my dreams formed around that. Fear of being hurt was what was reviled to me. And just as a storm tosses the waves into what can be a perceived as a dangerous situation, so to the mind can be tossed by my thoughts/experiences of being hurt in one form or another.

But I am the captain of this ship (the mind) and via good seamanship can ride the storm to calmer waters, where by being "gentle to myself" the waters form into a mirror like calmness. So gently I will go today with an awareness that the storm will pass, as it always does, and through experience I will become a better Captain.

I have only just come across your work via the ALTA reports. Since then you have been added to my Hero list. Which I have noticed, grows as I grow. Not trying to suck up here, that's just how it is for me. Much blessing's to you and all who come here. sp.

I had a copy of the book Anastasia given to me by an Armenian friend when I was in Moscow some time back. There was a picture on the front cover of this very beautiful "wild girl" walking around in the Siberian forests naked in minus 30. The part I couldn't take too seriously was when she was shot by a policeman who came to take her back to "civilisation", and the bullet just passed right through her body without causing any harm. But mind you, judging by her picture on the front cover I wouldn't have minded being her close disciple....

Bravo, LV. Thanks again.
Your point about the One taking any form or shape is especially relevant.

Sex is a characteristic of biological organisms. The Creator is not a biological organism. To attribute maleness or femaleness to the One is ultimately pointless. The Ineffable One is beyond all categories and descriptions.

But the One can and does appear to those who seek It in the form that the seeker can identify with, or finds meaningful.

So whether the One is conceived of as a male, female, elephant, serpent, cat, six-headed, riding a chariot, sitting on a lotus, dancing the dance of creation, or as mist, or light, is immaterial.

The One is and can be each one of those imaginings and others we haven't thought of. It can be a person or three persons, or have no form at all.

All the fighting among religions can come to an end if people could understand that the Ineffable is just that. Beyond all descriptions. Indescribable, but eminently reachable because It is everywhere and in all that It has created because everything is from It. Nothing else existed before.

Hey Papa,.. thanks gurnygob.. excellent info. I should have added something about the nature of my confusion which of course would have indicated that I was 'on topic'. What or whom is it that we should be in search of - how will we know when we are searching that we have found the path or the Divine itself? If there are three distinct manifestations, are they actually 'the one' facilitating a purpose built role. Like a Hammer, a Saw and a Chisel are all carpenters tools, for working wood, yet they serve entirely different purposes. When I need help to defend myself and my family do I call upon The Christ(Shiva)? When I need love do I call upon the Father(Brahma)? When I need serenity, do I call upon the Holy Ghost(Vishnu)? Is Allah(with respect)all of these and at one time distinct; thank you for that comment Farid, (I appreciate all the help I can get). I want so much to know my Lord and to communicate I feel helpless and lost in the material 'world' and get so angry I feel ashamed before the obvious awesome presence of divinity on Earth. I feel like I am caught in an endless game of Blind-man's Bluff.

To all, please excuse my fumbling.

Love light & peace to you all.

“My eyes are sore from crying, my throat is hoarse from calling out my saviour’s name in vain. I am weary; for I have waited so long upon my G-d.”

"No faithful transliterations of Bible scripture make any reference to The Trinity"

You are correct and I will tell you how the word Trinity came about. (actually I think I already explained this) The early Christians castigated the pagans of the time for worshiping multiple gods. The pagans turned it back on the Christians saying they have three Gods, the Father, The Son, And the Holy Ghost. This was a real delima for a long time. Then they came up with a solution, the Trinity, three Gods in one.

If you want to know what he was doing for those seventeen years get a copy of the Euranta book. The last third of the book is devoted to Jesus' life on earth. It is much better written and more believable than what you find in the Bible.

Les, God has a multitude of Masters, light beings, 5Ds, etc. on the other side. They are all ready to help if only you ask. I am of the opinion that when people think they are "talking with God", it isn't the Absolute which they are communing with but one of these entities. If you were to see a master or ancient of days etc. you would think you had seen God. My wife had a fantastic experience with some of these entities.

The Trinity to my understanding is the same as the 3 parts of a person ie. Body Mind and Spirit and since we are created in the image of the creator the Body is the Son or Christ while the mind is God the father and the spirit is the Holy Ghost. Their is also three parts of the brain that are layered from the inner and most primative reptilian layer then is the middle or mammilian layer and the outer being the humaniod layer.
So the Trinity that describes God is still the One Creator of all.
As God gave the body of Christ to attone for the sins of our body so we must abandon the sins of the body of flesh inorder to exist in the presence of the Creator. While I find the expression of the Creator to be in common with the New Testiment of the Bible I do not hold it to be the only path to the Creator as I have seen many belief systems which describe the same pathway.
May the peace and love of and by the Creator be with you always.

Les, Excellent insight that reflects mine.
The magic presence is there if we can accept it.Thank you
mo visible

I have been wanting to comment for a long time I guess everything depends on ones readiness , you keep asking the one to make his presence felt but the biggest secret is the presence is always within you, you only have to calm yourself enough to look within in yourself and it's not as easy said than done and the way to calm your self is complete acceptance and surrender...

Accept everything that happens to you, and put the responsibility on him trust whatever happens happens for reason and this is more true when it is concerned with people on the path and realize however corny it might sound , this physical existence an illusion created by the master illusionist... And the distractions that you talk about are, pull of the illusion the enlightened ones feel the tug and look up at the one say , I know you are amazing but you are an artist and you created this magic.

You also ask for all the answers , they will come to you when the time is right too much knowledge too early will not help you he knows it again .... Trust him , you still have a role to play and questions to be asked and answers sought you have role to play , there will come a time you will have allthe answers and you will not Have any more questions and the agitations dissappears and bliss will come but there are more people to be shown the path and your writings are the sparks...

And remember you want things to happen the way you want they don't happen you I have been good , but why ? Well as before things will happen when they have to happen ... Frustrating maybe but you have to remember tough times are purification process...

The key is acceptance and everything starts making sense

I'm only sharing my specific approach. As you know, there are many and we are not all the same sort of personality. I'm nearly all fire and air (hot air?) so I am pretty passionate about things but have reversed that way of being over time so that I am not nearly so as I once was... except internally.

Others who are water based enjoy practicing tranquility. Earth based might be inclined to stillness and so on.

Of course... (a wise man rules the stars) working with one's astrology or personality makeup is a little like barrel or log rolling. It takes time and many a slip before one becomes accomplished and only the sincere and determined achieve success. this is where the passionate angle comes into the picture for me.

Although Maya Devi is the Mother of Gautama Buddha, and Durga / Maya is considered the Mother of the Cosmic Manifestation, ‘Maya’ (the name itself) does not mean ‘Mother’ in Sanskrit. MATA means Mother in Sanskrit. The Transcendent Tara, also a Shakti of Vishnu, incarnated as Maya Devi, because Tara is considered the Mother of ALL Buddhas or incarnations of THE ONE ADI BUDDHA. Tara descends as the Mother of the Incarnation or Avatara of Vishnu. Tara or Astraya in Sanskrit means ‘Star’ and thus the STAR of Beth-lehem was the portent of the Messiah’s birth, and Mary is associated with Rhoda-Nymphia-ASTARIA on the Isle of Rhodes as STELLA MARIS, and SEKHET / SHEKINAH / SHAKTI the Feminine ‘energy’ or creative ‘Pleasure-potentia’ of HARI / ELI / HELI / HERU etc.

oh mighty
living truthful light
who sits inside
my heart day and night
who broke me down
and then repaired
prepare's me for
the battle ahead
who lives in all hearts
most dont know
but they will
when they feel the flow
a running stream of
higher nature
an unstoppable force
that immediatly waken
only fools pretend
it is not their
trying to take all
they dont care
running round
like spoilt children
let loose with
toy's of domination
but they will learn
their lesson too
it will hurt them
for what they pursue
should of lived
with open hearts
instead of murder and
stripping lands apart
so I will practice
your presence every day
till peace
surrounds me everyway
it was you who
made my heart true
set me on
true natures way.

A duel? I'd love to, but unfortunately on orders from a higher authority I'm only allowed to smite the ungodly these days and seeing as you have a sense of humour you don't qualify.

I will take a moment to thank you, Les, for reading and posting the information in your "Visible Stream of Consciousness" section.

Your patience, good nature and prescience do not go unnoticed.

We forget about breathing. It happens even when we arent thinkin about it? Sometime we have to control it, but not much? The divine could view as such?

I too see a family of images and people that make up the divine! I leave out too many others, but its neat and wonderful to find new members to add! Someday all before me, will I have the power to give thanks for? The tara is seemingly an image I "want" see and talk to, more so than any other forms?
I love your mind man. Yes the tara helps get us ready for the road ahead! I will think back to my mother dressing me for school and see something new!

"the heart is inflamed and the body is contracting and digging into itself."

I've had just this experience, starting only about a year ago. "contracting" is just the word I would have chosen.

Afterwards, I wonder if part of the body reaction is the ego/small mind vainly trying to defend what it thinks of as its "turf".
